SFP 6:  RECOGNITION OF SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT.

UNDER EXISTING LAW, NO DAY EXISTS FOR THE RECOGNITION OF SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT.

THIS MEASURE WOULD MEMORIALIZE THE CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT TO ENACT LEGISLATION THAT WOULD ESTABLISH "THERE IS A WINNER IN YOU" SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT DAY TO RECOGNIZE SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN MAY OF EACH YEAR.

SFP 6: RELATING TO RECOGNITION OF SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT

WHEREAS, OUR SENIORS MADE AMERICA WHAT IT IS TODAY; AND

WHEREAS, MANY SENIORS ARE UNAPPRECIATED AND IGNORED IN THEIR OLD AGE AT THE VERY TIME SENIORS SHOULD RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVE FOR THEIR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS; AND

WHEREAS, THOSE WHO COME INTO CONTACT WITH SENIORS ARE AFFECTED BY THEIR DISPOSITION AND EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE; AND

WHEREAS, THE SALUTE AMERICA CAMPAIGN HAS CONDUCTED FIVE SENIOR EXPOS AT PARK LA BREA, CALIFORNIA, AND HAS RECOGNIZED 100 SENIORS EACH YEAR SINCE 1996, AND THE FORMER MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, RICHARD RIORDON, OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED MAY 11TH AS SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT DAY FOR THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, BY THE SENIOR SENATE AND THE SENIOR ASSEMBLY, JOINTLY, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AT ITS 2004 REGULAR SESSION, A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS VOTING THEREFOR, HEREBY PROPOSES THAT THE SECOND WEDNESDAY IN MAY OF EACH YEAR BE NAMED "SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT DAY" AND THAT ON THAT DAY, SENIORS RECEIVE RECOGNITION OF THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESPECTFULLY MEMORIALIZES THE CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT TO ENACT APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION THAT WOULD ADDRESS THE CONCERNS SET FORTH IN THIS MEASURE; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THIS MEASURE BE TRANSMITTED TO THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT, THE SPEAKER OP THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE CHAIRPERSONS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE COMMITTEES ON AGING, AND TO EACH SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE FROM CALIFORNIA IN THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES.
