Annual Session
The 28th Annual Legislative Session of the California Senior Legislature will be held October 20-22, 2008 in the State Capitol, Sacramento, California.
Preparation of the 2008 Session Program Book is underway. You are invited to submit an advertisement for inclusion in the book; here are the specifications. Note that links to images of past Session Program Books are provided below.
Prior to the session, members submit proposals for legislation at both the state level and the federal level that will provide better quality of life for California's senior population. These proposals are edited to provide a common format by Legislative Counsel of the California Legislature, and delivered to all members for evaluation.
At the Annual Session members gather into committees to evaluate the proposals that have been presented. Proposals are authored by Senior Senators or Senior Assembly Members. A proposal that is passed by the CSL will have passed a Policy Committee in the author's house; been passed on the floor of the author's house; been passed by a Policy Committee in the other house, and been passed on the floor of the other house. Since amendments may be made in the Policy Committees, an additional concurrence may be required in the originating house.
The proposals that pass through this process are then submitted to legislators in the California Legislature which is encouraged to pass appropriate legislation implementing the proposal.
